Sometimes it is just…there. The picture you have always been looking for. You know what i mean? The one that takes your breath away and you look at it and think — WOW. I am going to do something beautiful with it. It just talks to me, this picture, it’s amazing. What is the story behind it, i wonder. Or maybe i will just imagine a story about this picture myself. So here goes.

Carrot Manifold

There were once six carrots. All born and raised on the same field. They had heard the same stories, shared the same land. The same wind rattled their leaves. And they were now waiting for the day when they could start their own life and finally go on travels! Just like all the other carrots before them did. And that day finally came. They were pulled out of the ground (ok that hurt a bit, but who cares!) They started their journey!! Oh joy!!!

As they laid down in a basket they thought „Ohhh…. this is cozy! Sooo cozy, love it! I wonder what the future holds for us. All was just so exciting. It got dark, and they were a it thirsty. But who cared! They were living in the future now. And, you know… a cosy basket, this is some luxury, right here! Then…it was quiet for a long time. Until two new carrots unexpectedly joined them in the basket! They were were just the same as the other six, but were a quite lighter shade of red.

The six carrots were extremely…EXTREMELY surprised: „Well, what is this!! WHO are you, and what are you doing here! …just unbelievable…!!“

„There isn’t enough place for all!“ shouted one of the six carrots. „I am sure there is just enough place for all!“ said another one. „Let’s just hear their story, OK? So… tell us a bit about yourselves?“

The two carrots started telling their story. How the earth they grew in was a slightly different color, but just the same. How the wind rustling their leaves carried different perfumes, but was just the same. How their neighbors — cheeky tomatoes — were singing all night. „OK that’s not the same!“ and then they laughed together and rested in the basket together. And their fuzzy green and reddish leaves intertwined, full of dreams. They were all the same. All carrots in a basket together. Happy. Content.

Suddenly a loud BANG and a strong light blinded them.

„Good!“ Said the photographer „Another picture of vegetables. I wonder what this one is good for! It‘s just carrots for heavens‘ sake“ he puffed.

Well. The photo got real famous in its own way. It was printed on reports, presentations, it even got twittered. Perhaps deep down, people realised it had a special story. The story of the carrots that came together and realized they are all the same. That they belonged together. Just like us humans. We are all the same. And we belong together.
